Friday morning drizzly with periods of steady rain. The perfect weather metaphor for our indoor classroom session.
This session was more about our own behavior when we come to a situation that we are unsure of or don’t know how to handle. How we deal with those roadblocks determines our success or failures.
Knowing how we have reacted to our roadblocks in the past is the first step in recognizing how we have arrived at where we are today. Keeping that awareness with us as we approach the next bump in the road and applying the skills and knowledge we are acquiring is the key to mastering our own fears and limitations as a real leader.
Singer, song-writer, Katie Drake (Pat’s niece) came in to perform one of her songs titled, “In Your Shoes” that was inspired from observing Parelli students playing with their horses as they observed and learned about their different horse-analities.
The first note of her beautiful voice triggered the waterworks that allowed most of us to release our own tears of forgiveness for not having been the leader our horses have wanted us to be.
The exercise that followed gave us the opportunity to define the leader that we want to become, starting from where we are today without the limitations of our past. Very empowering!
Later we were treated to join Pat and Linda to watch the Premiere showing of a new documentary on Pat’s life. More tears, this time of Joy, Pride and Inspiration!
Pat is a true advocate of the horse.
The more I come to understand the Parelli philosophy, the more I understand that it’s not about training the horse to do this or that. It’s about becoming the person who understands what needs to happen next from the horse’s perspective, and providing the leadership required for that individual horse. Then your horse will wants to do this or that out of partnership and mutual respect.
It’s about Relationship.
